James W. Thompson CFA®, CFP®

Jim Thompson began his career as an investment research analyst and held several positions in the asset management industry prior to joining Value Wealth Management in 2008.  His experience in assisting his parents retire from farming illustrated the need for an advisor to help clients to coordinate multiple aspects of their financial life including investing, tax planning, cash flow management, and estate planning. 

Jim began his career as a junior analyst in the equity research department of Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee Wisconsin.   Jim also worked as a High Yield analyst for Principal Global Investors.  He was an Equity Analyst and Director-Investment Strategy and Equity Research for Investors Management Group.  He served as a Senior Securities Analyst for Aviva Investors.  During his time as an analyst and portfolio manager, Jim had the opportunity to research several different industries and asset classes.  This variety of experiences helped him to analyze financial markets from a number of perspectives. 

Jim holds a degree in Finance with a minor in Economics from Drake University.  He earned an MBA® degree with a concentration in Finance from the Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa. 

Jim serves on the Advisory Board to the Securities Analysis class at Drake University.  He also is an advisor to the Jack Pribaz Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting research for neonatal onset epilepsy caused by mutations of the KCNQ2 gene.
